Bible Notes Online - Psalms 141 - ESV
Commentary

Integrity maintained through the onslaughts of the enemy; David's clear conscience. In all our trials, devotion and obedience must be maintained, see Ps 101.

v1-2: Prayer and praise; that all be acceptable, even pleasing to God. Prayer and praise reaching Heaven itself.

v3-4: Conscious obedience, and a desire for practical holiness. The psalmist dislikes "wicked deeds." We may not be able to avoid contact with the wicked, so we must be careful to avoid their attitudes, and to reject their desires and preferences, yet keeping our distance as far as possible.

v5: The rebuke of the righteous is preferred to the praise of the wicked. The Psalmist is conscious of the wickedness of the wicked, but makes no claim of personal perfection.

v6-7: Prayer against the wicked, as in Ps 140.9-11.

v8: Dependence upon God, Ps 140.6-7; protection and preservation in difficult days.

v9: Snares and traps, Ps 140.4-5.

v10: Plans turned upon their heads, Ps 140.9-11.
