Commentary
Jerusalem, the delight of the Jewish people; after the journey described in Psalms 120 and 121, here is the joy of arrival.
v1: The people delighted in Jerusalem because that was where the house of the Lord was.
v2: A place of security.
v3: A place of protection.
v4: Focus on worship for all the people of God; this was to be enjoyed together. These Psalms reflect the corporate nature of life in God, and worship of God.
v5: Place of authority and judgment, where disputes were settled.
v6-9: Prayer for Jerusalem; corporate prayer, for blessing upon the people, and for the glory of God and His Name. We should pray for the church, for peace within and for prosperity, i.e: testimony on the earth.
Pointers to the coming of Jesus Christ;
- He is our promise of good things from God;
- He was the presence of God upon the earth;
- He is our authority;
- He is to be the centre of our worship.
