Bible Notes Online - Numbers 28 - ESV
Commentary

v1-8: The regular daily offerings. These were to be made at the appointed time (v2; Gal 4.4; Rom 5.6).

v3-4: There were two regular daily burnt offerings. These were simply offerings of worship, for God remains constant and faithful. These offerings had to continue even during special feast times (see v23, 31, etc.). The lesson is that we should maintain a personal devotion of God through all circumstances; the church too must maintain its worship regularly.

v9-10: Burnt offerings every Sabbath day.

v11-15: A regular monthly offering, which included a sin offering. Regular confession of sin is a good practice, regular worship concentrates our minds on God rather than on ourselves.

v16-25: Annual observance of the Passover. This was the first of the annual feasts; see Ex 12.2, where the month Abib (Ex 13.4) became the first month of the Israelite calendar.

This feast celebrated the Passover, which was achieved and completed. In the same way Christians remember that Christ died once for all, a complete, sufficient sacrifice to bring deliverance. The "breaking of bread" was instituted at the time of Passover, see Luke 22.7-19.

We note that each animal to be offered was to be "without defect", v19; 29.2, 8, 13. Again this points us to Christ, who was without defect, and was utterly perfect.

v24: For seven days, known as the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Lev 23.6), the celebration was to be continued.

v26-31: The Feast of Weeks, or First Fruits. While the Passover celebrated salvation past and completed, this Feast celebrated salvation present and continuing. This was true for the Israelite, as he had to look constantly to God to meet his every need. For the Christian too, there is the on going process of salvation, as God's work continues in our lives.
