Bible Notes Online - Leviticus 6 - ESV
Commentary

v1-3: Continuing the guilt offerings with restitution. Dishonesty described here can take any form. This also assumes a high standard of honesty in everyday life.

v5: The restitution to the person wronged had to be made on the day the guilt offering was offered. Forgiveness was linked strongly to restitution. Sin is first against God, and He has laid down how that is put right. But where sin is also against another person, a full apology and proper restitution must be made.

v12-13: The burnt offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings were to continue burning; a perpetual fire of sweet smelling aroma to the Lord. The priests had the daily responsibility to feed this fire. This was part of the voluntary offering of the people of God, and thus we should expect that, from a population of 600,000 men, sufficient offerings would be forthcoming.

v16-18: See also v26; 7.6; the priests eat from the offerings, 1 Cor 9.13; 1 Tim 5.18 apply this principle into N.T. Church life; elders, evangelists, etc., have a right to receive from the Church, not just in financial terms, but also in terms of proper respect.

The priests ate the things that were most holy; the grain offering (v16), the sin offering (v26) and the guilt (or trespass) offering (7.6) also included portions for the priest. This provision was abused by the sons of Eli (1 Sam 2.12-17).

v19-23: Where the grain offering was made for the priests, they could not eat it, as it was to be totally consumed.
