Bible Notes Online - 1-Chronicles 22 - ESV
Commentary

v1: David's purchase of the threshing floor perhaps provoked David into making further preparations of the temple. This became the site of the temple, 2 Chr 3.1, and was also the place where Abraham had offered Isaac.

v2-5: Although David had been forbidden from building the temple, he gave himself to preparing for it. Israel had grown richer, through receiving tribute from other nations, and so David was therefore in a position to provide much for the temple.

David's desire was that the temple should reflect God's glory, and also that Solomon should be encouraged in the work. The unselfish worker prepares for those who will follow.

v6-10: David related to Solomon what God had said to him; that he could not build the temple, because he had shed much blood; that his son, a man of peace and rest would build the temple. He also spoke of God's promises to the line of David, to encourage Solomon.

v11-13: David's prayer and exhortation; that Solomon live close to the Lord. The building of the temple would be of little real value unless Solomon maintained his obedience to God. David's prayer for wisdom was answered; 1 Kings 3.12; 2 Chr 1.11-12.

v14: Although David had prepared vast amounts of materials, and taken much trouble to prepare, he was happy that Solomon add more; this was important, so that Solomon himself would contribute to the temple; his contribution had a real value. To fail to involve another can remove their dignity.

v15-16: The materials and the men provided were abundant; such is the Lord's provision for His people.

v17-19: The leaders were commanded to help Solomon, enjoying the same victory given by God, but responsible also to be obedient and devoted to God.
